Beach hazard warning issued for Horry, Georgetown Counties Sunday

Use caution at the beach Sunday as the National Weather Service out of Wilmington NC has issued a beach hazard warning.

The warning is in effect for Horry and Georgetown Counties until 9 p.m. due to a southward moving longshore current.

The National Weather service predicts north to northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph will result in a moderate to strong longshore current.

A longshore current is an ocean current that moves parallel to the shore and can cause beach erosion.

Caution should be used in and near the water.
