Myrtle Beach to ‘spring forward’ with nicest weather weekend yet

The Sun News

The Myrtle Beach area is set to “spring forward” into Daylight Saving Time with its nicest weekend this year under partly cloudy skies and daily highs predicted to be in the 70s through Sunday.

Setting the mark of longer days and an advancing summer season, Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday morning, spurring a reminder to all to set clocks an hour ahead before bedtime Saturday.

The Myrtle Beach Fire Department encouraged residents to also use the change in time as a reminder to change the batteries in smoke detectors in a Facebook post March 1.

“For the most part it’s going to be a pleasant weekend,” said Dave Loewenthal, a weather forecaster with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C. But the weather may turn “iffy” with a small chance of rain Sunday.

There may be some patchy fog Friday morning but otherwise the weekend will start off with partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the upper 70s, according to Loewenthal.

It’s going to be the warmest weekend we’ve had so far this year.

Winds will be out of the southwest around 10 a.m. Friday, he said, and folks standing on the shoreline may feel a little cooler breeze.

Saturday morning will start with mostly cloudy skies that give way to partly cloudy conditions with highs in the lower 70s by the afternoon. Winds are forecasted to be out of the east in the morning and should take a southeast direction in the afternoon.

Sunday is shaping up to be mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers in the afternoon and highs in the mid 70s, Loewenthal said.

Low temperatures each night are predicted to stay in the 50s.

“It’s going to be the warmest weekend we’ve had so far this year,” Loewenthal said, adding the average high temperatures this time of year are in the mid-60s.
