Update: Two dead after Friday night crash in Horry County

A second death recently resulted from a crash that happened late Friday night in the Galivants Ferry area.

Patrick Dennis Lefebvre, 20, of Galivants Ferry died at 7:20 a.m. Monday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from head injuries he suffered during the crash, according to Tony Hendrick, Horry County deputy coroner.

Derrick James Sr., 64, of the Galivants Ferry area died at the scene from trauma suffered during the crash, and his death was ruled accidental, Darris Fowler, Horry County deputy coroner said.

The crash occurred at 11:10 p.m. when the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck disregarded a stop sign while traveling north on Gumtree Road and collided with a 2007 Charger driven by James that was headed east on Jordanville Road, according to Sgt. Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The Charger caught fire after the collision, and James died, authorities said.

Lefebvre was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, along with a passenger who also suffered injuries, authorities said.

The SCHP is continuing to investigate the crash.
