Myrtle Beach tourist wins $1 million from lottery scratch ticket
A Connecticut tourist visiting Myrtle Beach won $1 million after he purchased the winning lottery ticket Wednesday at a North Kings Highway Food Lion.
“I was shocked,” he said.
He bought the Gold Millions ticket and a newspaper at the Food Lion at 7601 N. Kings Hwy. Wednesday morning and stopped scratching at his ticket when he hit the $1 million-dollar jackpot, according to a press release.
“When he got home,” his wife said. “He pulled me out of bed screaming, ‘I won $1 million!’
The Connecticut couple has been vacationing in Myrtle Beach every winter since retiring, and they’re considering buying their own place in Myrtle Beach now that they’re millionaires, according to the release.
Two top prizes of $1 million remain to be won in the $10 Gold Millions game with odds of 1 in 1.6 million, officials said.
Players can also enter non-winning Gold Millions tickets by mail or online at sclottery.com for another chance to win $1 million in a second-chance drawing.
For selling the claimed ticket, Food Lion received a commission of $10,000, officials said.
