Myrtle Beach Speedway set to host county fair in April

A 48-acre tract of land at Myrtle Beach Speedway will be buzzing with excitement April 15-24 with the return of a newly formed Horry County Fair.

The fair will feature demonstrations, displays, vendors, free live music, a petting zoo, 4-H display, children’s educational activities and a midway by Strates Shows Inc., according to a Myrtle Beach Speedway release.

Thrill rides, cotton candy, funnel cakes, carnival games and more fair fun will liven up the midway as local talent takes the stage at the Myrtle Beach Speedway amphitheater.

“Having the Horry County Fair here at the speedway for 2016 is what we hope to see become a long-standing event here in the community,” said Myrtle Beach Speedway General Manager Steve Zacharias. “This is the opportunity for us as a local business to give back to the locals who have been supporters of the speedway for over 50 years.”

The fair is scheduled to open at noon on Friday, April 15, with free admission for students age 17 and under. The fair will continue each day through Sunday, April 24. Free admission to workers in the hospitality industry, who present pay stubs or employee identification, will be offered on Sunday, April 17, from noon until 5 p.m. Seniors age 65 and older will be given free access to the fair on Wednesday, April 20.

And college students will have a shot at free admission on Thursday, April 21.

Special events, including free concerts at the amphitheater, 4-H tent programs, a cornhole competition and a battle of the bands, will round out the 10-day fair schedule. The speedway will also offer incentives for local charities and schools to attract them to the fair, according to the release.

Daily admission is set at $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-11, free for children 4 years old and younger, $3 for seniors and $3 for service men and women with military identification. Parking will be free on the speedway grounds at 455 Hospitality Lane, Myrtle Beach, beside the Tanger Outlet Mall on U.S. 501.
