Santee Cooper storm center

Thousands of people were without power Friday afternoon due to an issue at a Santee Cooper substation, but power is now restored.

Santee Cooper’s storm center reported several outages in Carolina Forest, Conway, Loris and Myrtle Beach around 4:45 p.m.

Horry County Electric’s customers had power fully restored by 7:50 p.m.

Four substations were down from Conway down the Highway 17 Bypass, then up to the Dunes area, according to Santee Cooper spokeswoman Mollie Gore. Santee Cooper had three substations down and one belonged to Horry Electric Coop., Gore said.

Cause of the power outage is still undetermined, but the problem may have originated at the Horry Electric Coop. substation, Gore said.

Horry County Electric Cooperative is reporting more than 3,200 customers without power and a crew has been dispatched. The outage is due to loss of transmission from Santee Cooper into the Quail Creek Substation, according to the company.
