UPDATE: Victims identified in Friday traffic fatalities

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers are investigating after two separate fatal crashes happened about an hour apart Friday night.

The first deadly crash happened at 6:50 p.m. on Highway 548 and left the driver of a pickup truck dead. She was identified as Eunice Leal-Jimenez, 25, of Conway. The Others involved were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

The driver of a 2011 Cadillac sports utility vehicle was traveling south on Highway 548 when Leal-Jimenez’s 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck, traveling south on Wayside Drive, ran a stop sign, according to Cpl. Judd Jones with the highway patrol.

The Cadillac driver hit the truck on the driver’s side, and the pickup then hit a fire hydrant and overturned. The driver of the pickup was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, but died, authorities said.

Two children and the driver of the SUV were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

About an hour later at 7:55 p.m. Friday, a pedestrian — identified as Patricia Soles, 58, of Loris — was struck and killed while walking across S.C. 9 Bypass, authorities said.

The 55-year-old driver of a 2014 Land Rover was traveling south on S.C. 9 Bypass when the vehicle struck Soles.
