Car recovered three days after woman drives into Waccamaw River
A woman was found dead Tuesday morning in her car that was submerged in the Waccamaw River and crews returned to the scene today to try and recover her car, according to Horry County officials.
Donna Anderson, 66, of Conway, was found dead inside the vehicle, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler.
Fowler said Anderson died from an apparent drowning, but the incident is still under investigation.
Horry County Fire Rescue divers were in the Waccamaw River throughout the day on Tuesday working to recover the vehicle.
They put airbags under the car so they could lift and drag it to the nearest landing, about 600 to 800 feet away, according to Brian VanAernem, with Horry County Fire Rescue.
But the boat they had wasn't big enough to pull the car and crews had to stop when darkness fell on Tuesday.
They returned to the scene Thursday morning and at around 2 p.m. the car was able to be removed from the river.
