Hundreds of people gathered in the gymnasium of South Florence High School Saturday for funeral services for Michelle Hickson, 38.

Hickson coached basketball and volleyball at South Florence High School for years.

She died after a car wreck Sunday evening in Clarendon County.

Hickson’s students said they wanted to attend her funeral to pay their final respects, but it wasn’t easy.

“She was really nice, and she was always caring. She was fun to be around. It’s just overwhelming,” said Ecclesia Kirkland, a former student.

“We all looked up to Coach Hickson. She was a very inspiring lady, and it’s hurting us, but we all doing everything we can do for her,” said Quina Hodge, Current Student.
