The Sun News file photo

An Horry County firefighter was able to save a puppy from a house fire on Friday morning, according to Lt. Brian VanAernem, with Horry County Fire Rescue.

Lt. Brandon Stephens was one of the firefighters who responded to a call on Cane Branch Road.

Amy Burgan, the homeowner, said no one was home at the time of the fire, but five dachshunds were inside the house.

Burgan said her daughter, Logan, 14, had left the house to go to school only 30 minutes before the fire started Friday morning.

Logan was in school when she got the call from her Amy about the fire.

"I just started crying. And then when my dad came, I started crying more because he was crying," she said.
