Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrated with awards breakfast, parade
The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is Monday. All state, county and local offices will be closed to observe the holiday.
Also, the Corporate and Community Awards Breakfast is planned for 8 a.m. Monday at the Mary C. Canty Recreation Center, 971 Canal Street. Then at 12:15 p.m. the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade starts along Ocean Boulevard near 24th Avenue South and ends at Ninth Avenue South.
Memorial service set for ‘Baby Grace’
A memorial service and blessing of the stone for Grace Carlson Santa Cruz will be held by the Horry County Coroner’s Office at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery.
A permanent headstone made possible by donations from the community was set for “Baby Grace” at her resting place.
“Baby Grace” drowned Nov. 3 after being taken into the Socastee creek by her mother Sarah Toney, who is charged with homicide by child abuse in connection with the 5-month-old’s death.
Annual dance convention scheduled
The 41st annual S.C. Square & Round Dancers Convention will be from 8-11 p.m. Friday and 7:30-11 p.m. Saturday, and classes will be available both afternoons at Springmaid Beach Resort, 3200 S. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach.

Smokehouse Day planned north of Conway
The “Old Smokehouse Day” is slated for Saturday at Horry County Museum’s L.W. Paul Living History Farm, 2279 Harris Shortcut Road, north of Conway. It will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is free. For more information, call 843-365-3596 or log on to www.horrycountymuseum.org.
