Wal-Mart plans submitted for Little River location
Wal-Mart has submitted plans to Horry County to build a new store in Little River on U.S. 17 Bypass adjacent to the Glen Dornoch Golf Links.
The property is an undeveloped wooded area owned by Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc., according to county records.
A Wal-Mart spokesperson did not return a request for comment on the timeline for the store’s opening, how many jobs would be created, or whether the proposed building that measures nearly 159,000 square feet will be a superstore.
Plans were also submitted to Horry County for a traffic study, and would determine whether a stop light should be installed at Nelson Road across from the proposed store.
David Schwerd, principal planner for Horry County, said the golf course would not be impacted by the development.
“There will be no change at all in access to the golf course, it will remain operational,” Schwerd said.
There are seven Wal-Mart supercenters in the Myrtle Beach area; Seaboard Street, the intersection of U.S. 17 Bypass and S.C. 544, Garden City Connector, Kings Road, Carolina Forest area, Conway, and North Myrtle Beach.
