Georgetown County officials are monitoring flooding on the Santee River, though no evacuations have been ordered as of Monday afternoon. Horry County officials are also keeping an eye on the rising Waccamaw and Little Pee Dee rivers.

Georgetown County Emergency Services will continue to monitor flooding near Crow Hill Drive this week, and county officials have prepared for an emergency shelter if the need arises, said Jackie Broach, county spokeswoman.

Emergency management officials will also be studying flood maps today to determine which, if any, other areas of the county may be in danger of flooding this week as water flows from inland areas of the state.

Flooding near the 13 houses on Crow Hill Drive was reported Sunday night, Broach said, but all residents said they wanted to stay in their homes. The residents “were advised that assistance would be available if at any time they decided they felt threatened by floodwaters and wanted to leave,” Broach said.

Some Horry County roads are closed due to flooding, but most of those roads are adjacent to boat landings on the Little Pee Dee River, according to spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier.

We’ve been monitoring it throughout the week. We haven’t heard of any impacts as far as people needing assistance yet.

Horry County public information officer

No evacuations are expected, Bourcier said, and county officials are monitoring river levels.

The following Horry County roads are closed:

  • Lucas Bay Road in Conway, near Pee Dee Highway
  • Hughes Landing in Conway
  • Punch Bowl Road in Conway
  • Landing Road near Bucksville Landing – includes north and south riverfront sides
  • Pitts Landing off Highway 378

The Santee River is expected to reach 23 feet with cresting around Friday, Broach said. Current levels at Crow Hill Drive have reached 22.3 feet.

As of Monday morning, the Waccamaw River had reached 11.5 feet, Bourcier said. Moderate flooding is listed at 12 feet, and depending on the weather the river could rise a little over the next few days, she said.

“The National Weather Service in Wilmington currently forecasts only light rain between now and then, which should have a minimal impact on flooding,” Broach said.

Georgetown County Emergency Management has a limited number of sandbags available to residents in flooded areas, and residents should call 843-545-3273 for information. Anyone wishing to be evacuated from flooded areas in Georgetown and Horry counties should call 911 for assistance.
