Planning commission to hold hearing on Superblock zoning

The Myrtle Beach Planning Commission is set to hold a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday regarding any proposed zoning changes to limit drinking establishments in the Superblock. The hearing will be held during the Planning Commission’s meeting in the first floor conference room of Myrtle Beach City Hall at 937 Broadway St.

The Superblock has been identified as an area of downtown bound by 9th Avenue North, Main Street, Highway 501 and Broadway Street. Myrtle Beach City Council enacted a moratorium in October to prevent any new drinking establishments from opening in the block to give planners time to come up with zoning changes that would limit that type of business in the area.

Shoulders of Glenn’s Bay Road remain closed through Friday

Shoulder closures for the east- and west-bound lanes of Glenn’s Bay Road from US 17 Business to Chandler Drive remain in effect through Friday for utility relocation work. Due to the tight right-of-way and the amount of equipment, the shoulder closures are in place 24-hours a day. No traffic is expected to be inconvenienced with the closures, but the shoulders will not be accessible, according to a road construction update from Horry County.
