A flood warning for the Waccamaw River in Conway has been issued for overnight hours on Saturday and is in effect until further notice, weather authorities said.

At 10:15 a.m. Saturday, the river was teetering on the edge of flood stage sitting at 10.8 feet and expected to rise above the 11 foot-minor flood level some time after midnight on Jan. 3, forecasters with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C. said.

The river could be at 11.1 feet by early Thursday morning, and additional rises are possible thereafter, forecasters said.

Water is projected to cause minor flooding in yards and a few roads in the Lee’s Landing, Pitch Landing, Savannah Bluff, and Riverfront South communities, along with overflow of vast uninhabited swamp and natural boat landings, weather authorities said.

“People with interests along the river should take the necessary precautions to protect life and property from the flood waters,” officials said in the warning.
