Longs man killed in morning crash on S.C. 57; driver, passenger fled the scene
One man is dead after a crash on S.C. 57 shut down the roadway for much of Monday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Horace Jamarr Bellamy, 32, of Longs, was killed in the crash, according to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge. Bellamy died on internal injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, Edge said.
The crash occurred at S.C. 57 south bound near Mt. Zion and Gore roads in Horry County, and troopers were on the scene for several hours.
The wreck was reported around 4:35 a.m. and at around 1 p.m., it was marked as a fatal crash by the S.C. Highway Patrol. A 2015 Chevrolet pick-up truck was traveling north on S.C. 57 and ran off the left side of the road, ran into a ditch and struck a utility pole, according to the highway patrol.
Bellamy, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. The driver and second passenger fled the scene, and SCHP is investigating.
