Myrtle Beach man comes home from vacation to discover $100,000 lottery win

A Myrtle Beach man came home from his vacation to a $100,000 surprise.

He bought a winning Powerball ticket before leaving on vacation, but didn’t realize he won until he got back, according to a news release from the S.C. Education Lottery.

The prized ticket was from Saturday’s drawing and purchased at the Kangaroo No. 3490 gas station at Oleander Drive in Myrtle Beach. The ticket missed the jackpot by one number, officials said.

“I can’t complain,” said the lucky winner, whose identity was not disclosed by lottery officials.

Changes made to the Powerball game in October benefited the winner, who would have otherwise only won $20,000 for the matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number on Powerplay.

“Retirement is going to be sweeter,” he told lottery officials.

The Kangaroo gas station will receive a $1,000 commission for selling the winning ticket, according to the release.

The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number are 1 in 913,129, and the odds of a two-time multiplier being selected are 1 in 1.79, officials said.

The winning numbers were: 13, 27, 33, 47, and 68 PB: 13.
