Update: Identity released of man killed in four-car crash in Georgetown County Monday night
One person was killed in a four-car crash after hitting a truck head on Monday night in Georgetown County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, and the victim’s name has been released by the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office.
Samuel Holmes, 68, of Lane, was killed in the crash, authorities said.
About 11 p.m. on U.S. 521, a 2007 Nissan, driven by Holmes, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane when the driver of a 1997 Ford pickup sideswiped a 2011 BMW while trying to avoid hitting the Nissan, authorities said.
Holmes then hit the side of the Ford pickup and struck a GMC truck head on and was killed, Cpl. Hannah Wimberly with the SCHP said.
Holmes was wearing a seat belt, and the Ford pickup driver suffered unknown injuries, Wimberly said.
