Annual Christmas Luminary Candlelight Service to be held at Hillcrest Cemetery Saturday

Candles will be lit for loved ones at the 19th annual Christmas Luminary Candlelight Service Saturday night at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway, including Baby Boy Horry and Baby Grace.

The service is hosted by Goldfinch Funeral Homes and Hillcrest Cemetery and is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Cemetery which is along S.C. 544, across from Coastal Carolina University.

Family and friends of loved ones laid to rest in the cemetery are invited to light luminaries for them at the event, which is free and open to the public.

Luminaries will be placed for Baby Boy Horry, who was remembered Friday afternoon at an annual memorial service, and a candle will also be lit for Baby Grace, who was the final infant to be laid to rest in the cemetery’s “Baby Land” section.

Staff members will provide luminaries for attendees who don’t have one, and staff will also light candles for all those buried who don’t have loved ones present to light a luminary for them.

Luminaries can be lit and placed around the cemetery lake and along its pathways for family members buried in other cemeteries or those who were cremated.

Refreshments will be served, and attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to donate through a collection being taken up by Churches Assisting People, who will have donation boxes in place at each refreshment tent.

For more information, call Hillcrest Cemetery at 843-347-4909 or Goldfinch Funeral Homes at 843-248-4211.
