Body of missing Georgetown woman found in Pawleys Island creek
The body of a 73-year-old woman, who was reported missing from her Georgetown home Monday, was found floating in a creek on the south end of Pawleys Island on Tuesday afternoon.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, Midway Fire Rescue and the Pawleys Island Police Department responded to 746 Springs Avenue on Pawleys Island to the report of a body floating in the creek around 3 p.m.
Coroner Kenny Johnson said that the deceased was identified as Clementine Byrd, who was reported missing from her home on Allen Road at 7 p.m. Monday.
Johnson conducted the autopsy Tuesday afternoon and said that preliminary results should be available Wednesday. Foul play was not suspected, he said Tuesday evening.
Byrd was last seen alive at 4:30 p.m. Monday at a neighbor’s house, authorities said.
Byrd’s 2009 Toyota Camry was found about 7 a.m. Tuesday at the north end of Pawleys Island by someone walking on the beach, according to police.
The investigation continues.
