Richland County deputies searching for suspects who shot at USC employee

Richland County deputies are searching for two suspects they say were involved in an early-morning shooting Wednesday in the Heather Green subdivision.

Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said deputies met with a victim who was leaving work from the University of South Carolina at 1 a.m. when he noticed a white vehicle occupied by two black males.

Lawrence said the victim told deputies that the suspects’ vehicle continued to follow the victim, even after he made attempts to elude the vehicle by speeding up and changing lanes.

When the victim reached his residence in the Heather Green subdivision, off Longtown Road, the suspects’ vehicle continued to travel past him, but not before one of the suspects fired a shot at the victim, Lawrence said.

Lawrence said the bullet struck the front passenger-side door but did not hit the victim.

The suspects fled the scene before law enforcement could arrive, Lawrence said.

If anyone has information regarding the shooting, they are asked to call Crimestoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
