Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a fire that displaced a few residents of the North Strand Housing Shelter on Highway 9 in Longs Sunday morning.

Assistant Chief Doug Cline said they were called to the shelter around 10:30 a.m. and found fire showing from an addition built on to the back of the building. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes.

No injuries were reported and everyone had been evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.

The blaze left the addition with heavy fire damage, according to Cline.

The Red Cross is assisting a few of the residents who were displaced by the fire.

According to its website, the North Strand Housing Shelter provides food, bathing and residential services for the homeless, hungry and needy in the community.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
