Various Veterans Day celebrations Wednesday
The Grand Strand area hosts a number of Veterans Day events throughout the week, including the Veterans Day Ceremony with the Grand Strand Patriotic Alliance.
The event begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday on the plaza of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, Oak Street at 21st Avenue North.
Music starts at 10:30 a.m. by Festive Brass of Myrtle Beach, and a planned 21-gun salute. Parking is free.

Both major political parties have debates this week
Republican candidates for president will debate beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday in Milwaukee. The debate is sponsored by Fox Business/Wall Street Journal. All candidates averaging at least 2.5 percent in four most recent national polls by Nov. 4 will appear.
Then on Saturday, Democrats will debate beginning at 9 p.m. in Des Moines. That debate is sponsored by CBS/KCCI and the Des Moines Register. Candidates expected to appear include Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley.
College basketball tips off Friday
The 2015–16 NCAA Division I men’s basketball season will begin Friday.
The first tournament will be the 2K Sports Classic. The season ends with the Final Four in Houston April 2–4.
Rescheduled Bridge2Bridge slated for Saturday
Georgetown “Bridge2Bridge” Run, from clock tower on Front Street, at Screven Street – half-marathon and 12 k at 7:30 a.m., 5k 7:45 a.m., and children’s run 10 a.m. Entry fees vary. www.bridge2bridgerun.com.
The fifth annual event, rescheduled because of last month’s flooding, will benefit Friendship Place.
