Taste of the Town at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center is set for Thursday.

Tasting events on tap

The 32nd annual Taste of the Town will be from 4-10 p.m. Thursday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The event, organized by St. Andrew Catholic School, was originally scheduled for Oct. 6 but the historic flooding in the area in early October prompted organizers to reschedule it.

More than 50 vendors offer tapas-style tastings from their menu at the event, with food tickets costing $1 each. Admission tickets cost $5 in advance and can be bought from any HTC location, or at St. Andrew Catholic School and church. Admission tickets are $6 at the door. Children 14 and under admitted free with adult.

Then on Saturday, the sixth annual Taste of Georgetown will be from 12:30-3 p.m. among various restaurants along Front Street in Georgetown. The event is a fund raiser for the Family Justice Center.

Advance tickets for the Taste of Georgetown can be obtained by calling the Family Justice Center at 843-546-3926. Tickets for food samples cost $1 each or 23 tickets for $20. Most food samples cost $3 and beverages are $2. This year, there will also be “doggie bags” – treats for dogs – available for canine attendees, offered by Pet Galley.

Cast your vote

Voters will pick their next leaders during city elections Tuesday. Myrtle Beach, Conway, Atlantic Beach, Georgetown and Briarcliffe Acres will elect council members and in some cases, a mayor. Horry County residents in District 3 also will vote for a council representative to fill the seat that was occupied by Marion Foxworth, who resigned in August to take the job as the county’s register of deeds. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. North Myrtle Beach’s candidates have already been qualified because there was only one to file for each open seat.

South Carolina hosting Democratic presidential candidate forum

Rachel Maddow will moderate a Democratic Presidential Forum at Winthrop University in Rock Hill from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday that will air live on MSNBC. “Hardball with Chris Mathews” also will air live from Winthrop starting at 6 p.m. Maddow and Matthews will join for a post-forum analysis from 10 to 11 p.m.
