Motorcyclist killed in crash on U.S. 17 in Garden City Beach
A motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 17 in Garden City Beach on Wednesday night, authorities said.
Robin Baker, 31, of Garden City Beach was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle during the crash and died on the scene from multiple traumas, according to Darris Fowler, deputy coroner with Horry County.
The crash happened about 7 p.m. at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and U.S. 17 and involved a 2011 Ford sports utility vehicle and 2007 Hyundai Elantra, in addition to Baker’s motorcycle, Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Baker and the driver of the Hyundai were traveling north on U.S. 17 when the driver of the Ford SUV turned in front of the motorcycle. Baker then struck the SUV and the Hyundai driver hit the motorcycle, which was lying in the road, Collins said.
Baker was not wearing a helmet during the crash, Collins said.
The driver of the SUV went to the hospital to be checked out, and the Hyundai driver did not go to the hospital, Collins said.
No charges have been filed against anyone involved at this time, but the crash is still under investigation by the SCHP, Collins said.
