jlee@thesunnews.com

One person is dead after a house fire in Little River, and Horry County police are investigating to determine if there was any foul play involved, according Lt. Raul Denis, Horry County police spokesman.

Eurel Johnson, 51, of Little River died in the fire, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick. The preliminary cause of death is smoke inhalation, Hendrick said.

Horry County Fire Rescue and North Myrtle Beach firefighters were called to the house fire on the 4100 block of Lincoln Heights Road about 11:50 a.m. and said the victim was trapped in the single-family home, HCFR spokesman Brian VanAernem said.

VanAernem said the victim was pulled from the burning structure by rescue workers.

Officials don’t yet know what started the fire. Denis said it’s routine for police to investigate for a possible crime whenever a death is involved with a fire.
