U.S. Coast Guard rescues three people from Georgetown boat

Three people were rescued Friday from a boat stuck on the ocean.

A 45-foot silverton vessel named Tommy Girl with three people on board was taking on water trying to combat 6- to 8-foot waves, Petty Officer Joey Kellems said. The boat was about 35 nautical miles from Winyah Bay in the Georgetown area.

Horry County Fire Rescue and the United States Coast Guard rescued the three people in distress Friday afternoon, said Brian VanAernem, with Horry County Fire Rescue.

Three patients were airlifted by the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter to Myrtle Beach International Airport where ambulances were waiting.

VanAernem said he is unsure what injuries the people have.
