Events canceled, rescheduled as heavy rain hits Grand Strand
The Grand Strand is expected to get between 5 and 8 inches of rain -- possibly more -- this weekend. Organizers have canceled or rescheduled planned events.
Check back often, for this list will be updated cancellations and postponements are announced.
Area events
Coastal Carolina University’s homecoming football game will now start at 2 p.m. Saturday.
▪ 2015 In the Pink Breast Cancer walk in Murrells Inlet is canceled and will not be rescheduled. The event raised $39,000 to support the foundation’s Breast Care Fund as of Thursday afternoon, organizers said.
▪ Brookgreen Gardens’ “Harvest Home Weekend” Festival rescheduled to Oct. 10-11
▪ “Calabash Big Sweep” will be Oct. 17
▪ “California Roots: The Carolina Sessions” will be rescheduled in spring
▪ Conway Fall Festival is canceled
▪ “Little River Clean Up” for Saturday is canceled.
▪ Georgetown County Family Justice Center’s Walk Against Domestic Violence Event will be Oct. 10
▪ Horry County Fire Rescue open houses planned for this weekend rescheduled – date TBA
▪ Oktoberfest at The Market Common will be Oct. 23-24
▪ Surfside Beach Family Festival will be Oct. 17
▪ “PinkOut Workout,” for Caring in Our Lifetime, remains on Saturday, but at Ocean Bay Elementary School gymnasium, 950 International Drive, northwest of Myrtle Beach, west of S.C. 31.
▪ “American Red Cross Auction,” with final day 2-6 p.m. Saturday, moves inside to GTS Theatre, 1220 Port Drive, Myrtle Beach, off U.S. 17 Bypass, near Jamin’ Leather.
▪ Farmer’s markets at The Market Common and Georgetown canceled for Saturday.
▪ United Way of Horry County’s “Yoga Day at the Ballpark,” at Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ home, will be 6 p.m. Oct. 8.
▪ La Belle Amie Vineyard’s Autumn Big Band Blast will be Oct. 10.
▪ Georgetown High School SAT administration scheduled for Saturday is canceled.
▪ Grand opening celebration for Gullah Museum & Gift Shop in Georgetown is postponed, for date TBA.
▪ “Fish & Grits Festival” in Cedar Branch community, near Loris, will be Oct. 10.
▪ Aaron Neville concert on SaturdayOct. 3, which is sold out, moved inside to Waccamaw High School, 2412 Kings River Road, Pawleys Island.
High school football games
Several games were moved to Thursday night, including Lake City at North Myrtle Beach; Dillon at Aynor; Wilson at Myrtle Beach; Georgetown at St. James and Carvers Bay at Creek Bridge
▪ St. James homecoming activities moved to Oct. 23.
▪ Mullins at Waccamaw High at 6:30 p.m. Monday; Waccamaw homecoming parade moved to 4:30 p.m. Monday
