Update: Victim identified in North Myrtle Beach crash Wednesday

WPDE

The identity of a man who died after a single-car crash in North Myrtle Beach Wednesday afternoon was released by the Horry County coroner, and authorities said a medical condition led to the crash.

Stephen Miller, 55, of Tega Cay died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after suffering a cardiac event and crashing into a utility pole, according to Robert Edge, Horry County coroner.

North Myrtle Beach police were called about 2:07 p.m. Wednesday to the area of 45th Avenue South and U.S. 17 where they found the victim, who had been driving a black Lexus, authorities said.

Edge said the man had been traveling north on U.S. 17 when he suffered a cardiac event and struck the utility pole.

Bystanders on the scene told police a man was inside the vehicle, and authorities said he was unresponsive when they found him.

Police removed Miller from his vehicle and performed chest compressions while waiting for EMS workers.

EMS arrived and took Miller to Grand Strand Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
