Four Republicans and one Democrat are running for the Myrtle Beach area seat on Horry County Council.

GOP candidates Ethan Leyshon, Oliver Owens Jr., Keith VanWinkle and Bob Kelly will square off in the Nov. 3 primary. Democrat Jimmy Washington is unopposed.

Filing for the seat closed at noon Monday. The winner will represent District 3, which covers much of the city of Myrtle Beach as well as a small part of Carolina Forest.

The seat was held by Democrat Marion Foxworth for 14 years. Foxworth stepped down from the post last month to accept a job as the county’s register of deeds.

Following the primaries (including a Nov. 17 runoff, if needed), a general election is scheduled for Dec. 22.
