Conway teen dies early Monday at student apartment complex, police investigate as homicide
Horry County police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old man early Monday at a student apartment complex as a homicide, authorities said.
Kristen Jetel Rekeem Williams, 19, of Conway was pronounced dead Monday morning at University Village at the Coast, said Michelle McSpadden, Horry County deputy coroner. An autopsy is set for Monday afternoon.
Police were called about 4 a.m. Monday to 113 Chanticleer Village Drive for an assault, Horry County police Lt. Raul Denis said. They found Williams dead at the location, but his cause of death has not been determined.
“This investigation is on-going and we don’t have anyone in custody at this time in relation to this case,” Denis said.
The housing complex is off-campus housing for students at Coastal Carolina University and Horry Georgetown Technical College, according to their website.
Martha Hunn, a spokeswoman for Coastal Carolina University said Williams was not a student at the school.
In a police report, Williams’ brother called to report he saw him laying on the ground outside of the building and it appeared Williams had been assaulted. At that time Williams was breathing, but not responsive.
Another person called police and reported that Williams was pushed off a balcony at the complex, according to the report. When officers arrived they found six to eight people standing outside and they were described as “a small, very agitated crowd.”
The officer noted that Williams did not have a pulse and had blood coming from the back of his head, according to the report.
Anyone with information about the incident can call Horry County Police at 843-915-TIPS (843-915-8477).
More details will be posted as they are released.
