Coast residents may see fighter jets late Wednesday morning

Residents along the coast may see several fighter jets across the Carolina sky Wednesday, but no one should worry.

The S.C. Air National Guard will be conducting air defense exercises over Horry, Georgetown, Berkeley and Charleston counties Wednesday.

Residents may see members of the169th Fighter Wing escorting a single-engine aircraft belonging to the S.C. Civil Air Patrol between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Most of the flying activity will not be visible from the ground, according to a news release from SCANG.

The exercise has been coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration to “ensure the rapid response capability associated with the SCANG’s Aerospace Control Alert mission,” the release said.
