4-year-old hurt when strong wind ‘swept’ him off his feet in North Myrtle Beach
A 4-year-old boy was sent to the hospital after he was “swept” off his feet from a strong gust of wind while on the beach in North Myrtle Beach, according to a report from the city’s Ocean Rescue.
First responders with North Myrtle Beach Ocean Rescue received a call for service just before 3 p.m. June 3 for reports of a 4-year-old child possibly having a broken arm, the report said.
Witnesses at the scene told ocean rescue and EMS that the “strong gust” blew through the area and lifted the boy off his feet, spinning him around before he fell on his arm, according to the report.
Ocean rescue workers “observed a deformity” to the boy’s upper right arm, according to the report. EMS and ocean rescue transported the boy to Grand Strand Hospital, the report said.
Earlier reports online suggested that several people were injured after umbrellas got caught up in the wind and started to fly away. However, a report from North Myrtle Beach Ocean Rescue indicates that only one child was injured. The report does not reference any umbrellas being involved in the incident.
