Motorcyclist dies after high-speed chase with SC trooper near Conway

A motorcyclist has died after he attempted to flee from deputies with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office near Conway early Sunday morning.

Jimmy Gagum, 34, was traveling on Highway 501 North when a South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper attempted to pull Gagum over due to speeding, according to a post from the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.

Gagum continued to drive his motorcycle, which resulted in a pursuit on Highway 501 North toward downtown Conway, according to the post. Gagum eventually turned onto Highway 548 where he ran off the roadway into a ditch near Reevis Way.

The motorcyclist lost control and collided with a ditch, resulting in fatal injuries, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
