A human bone was found in a dirt pile in Horry County, police reported Friday
A report was made of a bone found in the dirt that was poured in the area of U.S. 501 and Highway 22, according to a police department Facebook post. The dirt is stored for hurricane or weather needs, the post said.
The dirt pile where the bone was found was placed there sometime last year, the post said.
Upon review by the Horry County Coroner’s Office, the bone was confirmed to be from a human body, the post said. The coroner’s office will send the bone off for DNA testing to see if it matches any known missing person.
Horry County Police responded to the scene and is investigating, the post said.
