A Myrtle Beach Police officer has been arrested by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division after he was accused of pointing his gun at a fellow officer.

Michael Debiase, 46, was charged on Tuesday with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, according to a news release from SLED.

The charge comes after Debiase, who was a detective with the department, confronted a fellow officer on May 30 about “warming up fish in a microwave,” according to a warrant from SLED. Debiase allegedly then pointed his department-issued handgun at the other officer.

Debiase was placed on administrative leave immediately following the incident, according to a Facebook post from Myrtle Beach Police Department. The department identified several policy violations during its investigation with SLED which ultimately led to the department to “separate employment” with Debiase.

“Our employees are entrusted with significant responsibility, and with that comes an expectation of professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and respect for others,” Myrtle Beach Police Department wrote in the post. “This incident does not reflect the values demonstrated by the men and women of the Myrtle Beach Police Department every day.”

Debiase was booked Tuesday into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County, according to the release from SLED.
