A cheerleading competition being held in Myrtle Beach was canceled Sunday after what appears to be a stage malfunction.

The F&T Championships, hosted by Flips & Trix Cheer Consultants out of Maryland, was set to take place at The Hangout at Broadway at the Beach. However, it has been reported that one person was injured when the stage where performances were to be held malfunctioned.

Capt. Jonathan Evans with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department said by text that it appears the stage malfunctioned prior to the event.

No one from the competition was injured, Evans said. He did not know the severity of the person’s injury, Evans said.

F&T Championships apologized Sunday on its Facebook page for the unexpected cancellation of the competition.

“We understand how much time, effort, and heart goes into preparing for these moments, and we are truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused,” post said. “We are incredibly grateful for the grace, patience, and understanding that has been shown to our F&T family in light of the events that transpired.”

The post did not say what happened to cause the cancellation.

The Hangout, 1181 Celebrity Circle, posted on its Facebook page Saturday about the weekend competition, which brings hundreds of people to Myrtle Beach for the competition.
