Update: Wildfire forces evacuation of Carolina Forest residents. Where it’s located
Residents in Carolina Forest in the Myrtle Beach area were evacuated as fire crews battle a wildfire Tuesday.
Horry County Fire Rescue reported that three homes on Red Wolf Trail were evacuated at 4:25 p.m. out of an abudance of caution. Voluntary evacuations are taking place at multi-unit complexes on North Shore Drive as firefighting crews work the fire.
By 6:30 p.m., residents had returned to their homes, fire officials on the scene said. Crews were able to quell the fire with water planes and the fire was full contained with no damage to structures. One person was injured and was transported to the hospital, the post said. It was not disclosed what injuries the person received.
Residents will continue to see smoke until the area receives a significant amount of precipitation, the post said. There is also a high likelihood of flare-ups.
The fire was reported to be 7 acres in size, Horry County Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post. The fire began at 2:37 p.m. in the area of North Shore Drive and Red Wolf Trail.
South Carolina Forestry Commission used plows in the woods, a plane in the air for reconnaissance, as well as water tanker planes making drops, the post said.
The fire comes nearly a year after a wildfire affected three neighborhoods in Carolina Forest, burning over 2,059 acres.
