Blew out a flip-flop? New shop plans to be Grand Strand’s largest for beach must-have

The Boulineau’s family of businesses, well known in the Cherry Grove community for their stores selling everything from groceries to hardware, is now getting into the shoe business with the acquisition of the Sandal Land Shoe Store.

The store’s advertising claims it will be the largest sandal store on the Grand Strand with over 10,000 pairs of footwear suitable for protecting toes while crossing hot asphalt on the way to the beach.

The shop, located at 315 Sea Mountain Highway in North Myrtle Beach, once operated both as Sandals Shoes and as Bike Doctors of the Carolinas from the building.

Both business were closed last year and former owner Kelly Dennis offered the Boulineaus the first option to purchase.

It seemed like a good fit in their existing family of eight other stores in the area.

“Our mission at Boulineaus is to provide something that the local community needs,” said Jack Mixon, grandson of Frank and Elizabeth Boulineau and manager of Sandal Land, “and everyone needs shoes.”

Mixon said his family has no plans to re-open the bike shop.

The store is currently undergoing a complete rework, Mixon said. The interior will be renovated with fresh art around the walls, the porch is being redone, and the store will get the distinctive red roofing that has become a hallmark of Boulineau’s branding.

Ultimately, Mixon said he hopes to add a large mural on the seaward side of the building but is not yet sure what that design will be.

While specializing in sandals, Mixon said the new shop would carry several types of casual shoes as well as some beachwear items. Several popular brands will be offered, including Sketchers, Oofos, Olukai, Birkenstocks, Crocs and Hey Dudes.

They will also carry a selection of orthotic sandals from the brand Aerothotics.

The redesigned store is expected to open in May 2026 and the family plans to keep the store open year round.

Mixon says that several shoe giveaways are in the works both on the company’s social media websites and in-store during its grand opening expected sometime in May.

He encouraged visitors to watch the Facebook and Instagram pages for updates and promotions about the opening.
