Horry County issues a burn ban. Here’s what to know about the fire danger

Horry County Government issued a burn ban Tuesday for the unincorporated areas of Horry County until further notice.

A news release alerted residents of extreme fire danger due to the area’s dry and windy conditions that prompted the ban. A burn ban disallows outdoor burning, including permitted burns, until it is lifted.

“Those involved in any open burning (during the ban) would be in violation of the law,” the news release said.

The ban comes as the South Carolina Forestry Commission issued a statewide Red Flag Fire Alert, which strongly discourages outdoor burning.

“With this alert, we’re asking people to respect the weather and hold off from burning outdoors until the weather improves,” SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones said in a press release. “If you have burned recently, we encourage you to monitor the burn area to make sure the dry conditions don’t cause it to rekindle.”
