Myrtle Beach chef opens new kitchen, just not the food kind. What he’s making

Michael Donovan had been looking to open his own restaurant in Myrtle Beach when he came upon a kitchen for sale.

But it wasn’t any kind of kitchen the award-winning chef had ever worked in before. He had never heard of Slime Kitchen until his 10-year-old daughter told him how great the business was, having seen it on TikTok and Instagram.

So after consulting with his wife, Maria, the couple decided to open the California-based franchise at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach.

Slime Kitchen has opened at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The new business allows customers to mix their own slime of different color, scents, textures and toppings.

“We love to make slime with our kids,” Michael Donovan said. Now, the business has become a family affair as the couple’s daughter and 12-year-old son are “100% invested,” Donovan said.

This is the first location for the company in South Carolina.

Customers can make their own slime by choosing from among different bases, scents and colors and then mix in textures, such as glitter. Customers use a KitchenAid mixer to combine the ingredients.

The interactive process is a sensory experience for the entire family, Donovan said.

The slime is not too sticky and perfectly “stretchy,” Maria Donovan said. In addition, it’s food safe and non-toxic, she said.

The family chose Broadway at the Beach because “we love going there,” Maria Donovan said. Slime Kitchen fits in with the shopping center and entertainment complex’s specialty shops and restaurants, the couple said.
