DoorDash driver pulls gun on gate guard. He’s now suing Myrtle Beach area HOA
A DoorDash driver attempting to deliver an order in a gated Myrtle Beach community claims he was threatened by a security guard, forcing him to pull his gun on the person.
A lawsuit filed by Loren Eric Campbell said that he notified the guards providing security at Myrtle Beach Golf & Yacht Club Association that he was there to deliver an order through DoorDash. However, once the gate to the homeowners association began to open, one of the two guards “aggressively” approached his vehicle and began to yell profanity. The guard then put his hands on the vehicle door handle, threatening to “snatch” Campbell out of the vehicle and beat him, the lawsuit said.
Campbell, believing that “immediate and imminent” harm to his body and property existed, brandished a firearm to warn the aggressor to disengage in his threat, the suit said. The guard then backed away and Campbell proceeded through the entrance, into the community and delivered the order to the residence, the suit said.
A message left for the homeowners association was not immediately returned.
Campbell said that after the delivery he had to exit the HOA by again traveling past the guard shack. The guard who had approached the vehicle was on his phone and Campbell stopped to ask if he needed to stay and wait for police, the suit said. The incident was reported to Horry County Police and Campbell was arrested for pointing and presenting firearms at a person.
The lawsuit doesn’t say when the incident took place. However, online booking records show that Campbell was arrested on the charges in April 2023 and had a $10,000 bond.
Campbell was then booked into the detention center, his mugshot posted in the news, and he had to post bond, as well as hire an attorney, the suit said.
The charges were later dismissed against him without a trial.
The suit, filed on March 13, 2026, claims that the HOA is responsible for the hiring of the security guards and their actions. Campbell claims that he suffered from emotional distress, false imprisonment, assault and battery, defamation and malicious prosecution.
He is asking for a jury trial for punitive damages.
