Myrtle Beach’s longest-running food festival is ending. What will happen next?
One of Myrtle Beach’s longest-running food events is ending after 41 years.
St. Andrew School, 3601 N. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, began its annual Taste of the Town in 1983, starting as a small event in the school cafeteria. However, the culinary fundraiser grew, morphing into the massive festival that was hosted annually at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, drawing thousands of attendees.
But the school announced Friday in a press release that the event will not continue “in its current format next year,” adding that as the school prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary this year, “we are taking this time to evolve how we engage with our community and support our students.”
It is not clear from the release if the event will still happen this year. A message left for the school was not immediately returned.
The gathering of restaurants for the event brought in millions of dollars to the school, the release said.
The event allowed the sampling of different menu items from various eateries by purchasing tickets. The proceeds went to the school.
