It was a bust: Balloons knocked out power to thousands in North Myrtle Beach area
More than 4,000 people were without power in the North Myrtle Beach area early Thursday morning.
The reason: Mylar balloons.
Residents along Highway 17 woke up without power that occurred about 5:30 a.m. and was resolved about 7 a.m.
Santee Cooper posted photos on its Facebook page of what was left of blue Mylar balloons that had become entangled in transformers atop poles. The company said that the balloons were responsible for the outage that affected homes.
“The blue you see is what’s left of the balloons,” the post said.
