New businesses have been announced for a shopping plaza that is anchored by Publix just across the border from Little River.

Construction has begun on the new Publix, which will be in Calabash Commons on the northwest corner of Calabash Road and Highway 17 in Carolina Shores, near Calabash and less than a mile from Horry County.

The plaza also will have a Dunkin’ Donuts; Eggs Up Grill; Firehouse Subs; McDonald’s; River Oaks Pizzeria, which is a locally owned pizza restaurant that has locations in the Myrtle Beach area and Surfside Beach; a CVS Pharmacy; and a Chase Bank, according to a site map for available retail space published on LoopNet.

Cutty’s Pizza in Little River announced that it, too, will relocate to the plaza at the end of the year.

There appears to be about seven retail spots still available, according to the site map.

A new Walmart also will be built in the area, as well as the Philadelphia-based gas station and convenience store chain Wawa and a Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers.
