Southern comforts focus of reimagined, newly opened Myrtle Beach-area restaurant
A Myrtle Beach-area restaurant that has been closed for three months as it shifted its concept is now back to serving customers.
Southern Spirit Restaurant and Bar opened a week ago after shutting down for renovations of its building and to prepare for its new concept.
Southern Spirit is located in the same spot as the former Indo Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar, 4620 Dick Pond Road, and will still offer the same menu items that customers enjoyed, including the Asian dishes for which owner and chef Laura Smith is known.
What has changed is that Smith now has a new partner, Bill Thompson, and the restaurant has added Southern comfort food to its menu, including buttermilk-fried chicken, build-your-own burgers and beef tips.
Smith is also planning to offer one or two different Southern dishes each week. That could include ribs or BBQ, Thompson said.
“It’s still great food, just with extra food,” Thompson said. “We didn’t want to change too much because everybody loved Indo.”
There is still work to be done on the building, but Thompson said they wanted to get the space reopened because customers were missing the restaurant, adding that people were calling even when the location was closed.
