Myrtle Beach haunted bookshop opening with Edgar Allan Poe vibes, talking pics

A haunted bookstore will open its doors this spring at Broadway at the Beach.

Alice’s Haunted Little Bookshop is inspired by the 18th century Victorian era and focuses on dark and horror books, as well as books that have been forgotten, according to Ellie Greenberg, CEO and founder of Wonderlosity.

The bookshop is expected to open at the Myrtle Beach location, 1325 Celebriry Circle, in May.

On the dark side, think Edgar Allan Poe, Agatha Christie, Stephen King, Shakespeare, Greenberg said. Of course, there are other additional titles, including those from around the world, that focus on mystery, murder and mayhem.

“(There are also) authors you’ve never heard about,” Greenberg said.

Visitors can expect to see Edgar Allan Poe, who welcomes visitors into the shop, Greenberg said.

And while the small store does focus on dark and scary, Greenberg said the shop is family-friendly and there is an entire kids section.

Visitors also can expect interactive portraits hanging on the shop’s walls. Greenberg hopes to add to the experience by have the portraits talk to customers, even offering opinions about what books to buy.

This will be the second location for the bookstore. The other shop is located in Mystic, Connecticut. The bookstore also plans to open other locations this year, Greenberg said.

Opening at Broadway at the Beach was a “non-brainer for us,” Greenberg said.

Wonderlosity also is planning on opening The Cloak and Wand, a wizarding and potions bar, at the outdoor shopping and entertainment center. It is set to open sometime toward the end of May or early June.

And those are not the only brands of the company that will be located in Myrtle Beach. Greenberg said that one other brand is planned for Broadway at the Beach in 2027. She would not say what it would be.

“So far it’s been an amazing experience,” Greenberg said.
