Myrtle Beach area roadway closed as crews battle wildfire. Here’s what we know

A Myrtle Beach area roadway remains closed while fire crews battle a forest fire that broke out Saturday afternoon.

Horry County Fire Rescue says a 30-acre brush fire has been contained within fire breaks in the area of Renee Drive in Carolina Forest, according to a Facebook post.

As of 5:40 p.m. Postal Way remained closed to traffic while crews monitor and respond to any potential flareups related to the fire, the post said.

Smoke will be visible for an extended duration, the post said.

It is unclear how the fire started. Fire crews responded at 2:19 p.m. for a smoke investigation and located a 20-acre fire. The fire apparently grew to about 30 acres

The fire comes almost a year after a more than 2,000-acre wildfire forced evacuations of three Carolina Forest neighborhoods.

The east side of Carolina Forest Boulevard, which includes the neighborhoods of Avalon, Waterbridge and Walkers Woods, is where much of the fire burned in March 2025.

It took several months before the fire was completely contained and eventually put out.
