MLK Day parade to bring road closures to Myrtle Beach. What drivers should know
Myrtle Beach is preparing to host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, complete with a festive parade — and some road closures.
The Carolina African American Heritage Foundation, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Myrtle Beach kicked off Grand Strand Freedom Week on Friday. The weeklong celebration will run through Tuesday, and includes awards, food and service, with a parade on Saturday.
The annual parade will start at 10 a.m. and will span from 15th Avenue North to Eighth Avenue North along Ocean Boulevard.
Leading up to the parade, the city will see some road closures. Chester Street and Withers Drive between 14th and 16th Avenues North, as well as the area from 15th Avenue North to Ocean Boulevard, will close at 7 a.m. Saturday to serve as staging areas for the parade, according to plans shared by city spokesperson Meredith Denari.
Ocean Boulevard from 16th to Seventh avenues North will close beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Eighth Avenue North from Chester Street to Ocean Boulevard will also close at 9:45 a.m.
