Myrtle Beach area to get blast of cold, with temps dropping into the teens

The weather in the Myrtle Beach area has been a yo-yo in the past few weeks, with temperatures reaching near 80 and then cooling off.

The area can expect temperatures to drop again with the possibility of a cold weather advisory by Thursday, according to meteorologist Lauren Warner with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The cold front moving into the area on Thursday “is going to be quite strong,” Warner said. Residents can expect the highs to be in the 40s on Thursday and then drop to 18 degrees Thursday night.

Warner said the coldest night will be Thursday, extending into early Friday morning. The NWS may issue a cold weather advisory as the breezy and cold conditions could cause wind chills to be 15 degrees or colder, Warner said.

This cold stretch will last longer this time around, Warner said. The seven-day forecast shows that next Wednesday could have lows near or below freezing.

And although the mix of dry and cold air will bring some moisture, the coastal area shouldn’t expect to see any snow, Warner said.
